Musselwhite mine uses a gold cyanidation and CIP (carbon in pulp) extraction process. Ore is extracted via a blast hole process and moved via a series of scoop-trams and underground dump trucks to one of 2 rockbreakers, either on the surface or at a 400 meter level. The ore then travels once through a jaw crusher and through a series of conveyor belts and continuously along a cone crusherrock sizing circuit. An all-weather road connects the mine to the community of Pickle Lake, about 200 km to the south. The Musselwhite property is 17,548 hectares, entirely on First Nations land. Since its first commercial production in April 1997, the mine has produced more than 4 million ounces of gold.
